The Mayor's skills and gear

Two ways to make the camp a little stronger for good. From chapter 25 the Mayor learns skills; from chapter 28 the Forge makes gear for your leaders.

The Mayor's skills (chapter 25)

Once chapter 25 starts, the Mayor gets a skill point for every level from 25 (level 25 gives the first). Open the skills from the Mayor panel. There are three branches of six skills, learned top to bottom: each needs the one above it. The first two in a branch cost 1 point, the next two 2, and the last two 3, so a full branch is 12 points.

The Mayor's skills at Mayor level 32: three Builder skills learned, one each in Quartermaster and Commander, and 2 points to spend
The skills. Gold cards are learned; the green button shows the next one you can afford.
BranchSkills, top to bottom

QuartermasterMeals +10% energy, food store +10%, energy cap +10, food store +15%, meals +15% energy, energy cap +15
CommanderRoad strength +2%, night Scrap Metal +10%, mission time −5%, Road strength +3%, night Scrap Metal +15%, mission time −10%

Changed your mind? A reset gives every point back. The first one is free; after that it costs 500 Scrap Metal.

Tip: Builder pays back fastest while you're building a lot; Commander matters most once the Road and the islands are what holds you up.

The Forge and gear (chapter 28)

  • Chapter 28
  • On Workshop Row
  • Makes gear from parts

Every leader has three gear slots: weapon, armour and charm. The Forge makes one piece at a time from parts, on its own timer, so it never holds up a building crew. You can finish a piece early the same ways as a build.

The Forge. Pick a leader at the top; the store below lists every piece and who wears it.

4 (Sledgehammer, Bomb Suit, Sheriff's Star)+15%4,00024 hours8

Gear adds to a leader's strength on the Road, the islands and map missions. A full set of tier 4 adds 45%.

Where parts come from

  • Road stages and islands from chapter 28 (boss stages pay double).
  • Map missions: Bandit Forts most, then Bandit Camps and Scavenging Runs; River Mouth wrecks and Zombie Nests a few; a Supply Drop a crate of 100.
  • Held bandit raids.

Tip: put your best gear on the leaders you use most on the Road. Moving a piece to another leader is free.
