Gate of the Dead · player guide

Daily Siege, Bad Night, The Long Road and Holdout

Beyond the night ladder, the Gate tab has four more ways to play. They open as you climb the ladder, and none of them cost the Mayor any energy, so they're always there when you're out of energy but not out of time.

Daily Siege

  • Opens at gate night 4
  • New every day

One night, the same for everyone, new every day. Everyone gets the same crew: all eight defenders at level 4, with the grenade and the airstrike. That makes it the fairest test in the game, because your camp's upgrades don't count. It's ten waves, scored by how much of the gate is left, and your first try each day goes on the Daily Siege leaderboard. Playing it keeps a separate Daily Siege streak going, and it's often one of the day's jobs.

Bad Night

  • Opens at gate night 7
  • A new twist every Monday

A hard night with a twist that changes every week. Hold it once that week for 150 Scrap Metal. The twists rotate through:

  • Pea Souper: thick fog; your crew only see them when they're close.
  • Gas Leak: bloaters, lots of them.
  • Jammed: the turret is broken this week.
  • Rush Hour: everything moves a third faster.
  • Fun Run: runners everywhere.
  • Riot Night: everything wears armour.
  • Skeleton Crew: two posts only.
  • Hard Cases: they take a fifth more punishment.

The Long Road

  • Opens at gate night 13
  • Twenty nights, no going back

A run of twenty nights in a row. Your crew and scrap carry from night to night, and between nights you have twelve hours of daylight to repair, scavenge and look for survivors. If the gate falls, the run is over. It pays Scrap Metal for every night held and a big bonus for reaching the coast at the end.

Holdout

  • Opens at gate night 25
  • Weekly and all-time boards

Waves keep coming, each a little worse, with a boss every tenth wave, until the gate falls. You earn Scrap Metal for every wave you hold, and your best goes on the Holdout leaderboard, which has a weekly board and an all-time one.
