Boats, islands and trucks

From chapter 21 the camp starts reaching further. Chapter 21 puts squads on boats, chapter 22 opens a second Road out on the islands, and chapter 24 turns the Bike Rack into a Motor Pool with trucks that burn fuel.

River Mouth missions (chapter 21)

  • Chapter 21
  • Dock 5
  • Sent by boat

A new kind of map mission in a new part of the map, the Estuary, where the river meets the sea. River Mouth missions go out from the Dock instead of the camp: each boat takes one squad, with up to three leaders. They use the Dock's boats, not your land squad slots, so a River Mouth trip never holds up a Hunting Party.

The map with a River Mouth mission picked: power needed, time out and back, 4 energy, the loot, and the boats at the Dock
A River Mouth mission. The boats list shows which are free; a boat out fishing can't carry a squad.
  • What they pay: plenty of steel and food, Field Manuals, and a chance of a survivor that grows with the level.
  • Levels: ten, like the other missions. Clearing one opens the next and pays a 15-minute speed-up.
  • Energy: 4, as any mission.

The Island Road (chapter 22)

  • Chapter 22
  • Dock 10
  • 10 energy a fight

A second Road, reached by boat. Open it from the Road screen's The Islands tab. It's fought with the same convoy and the same battle as the Road, but island 1 starts at about the strength of Road stage 96, so it's a step up from the start.

The Island Road: island 119 with a bandit crew, your strength against the island rating, and a Gold Key at island 120
The islands. Every 10th island is a bandit captain and pays a Gold Key.
  • What it pays: Scrap Metal, and one and a half times the Field Manuals of the Road stage it's rated like. No timber, steel or food: that's still the Road's job.
  • Every 10th island is a bandit captain, about a third harder, and pays a Gold Key.
  • The weather (chapter 29): rain makes islands 10% harder, but storms only shut the Road, not the islands.

Tip: the islands are the best place for Field Manuals late on. When the Road stalls, push the islands instead.

The Motor Pool and trucks (chapter 24)

  • Chapter 24
  • Bike Rack 20
  • Fuel Depot

At level 20 the Bike Rack becomes the Motor Pool. It gives a fifth mission squad and three trucks; a fourth truck comes at level 24 and a fifth at 27.

The Motor Pool at level 21: five mission squads, three trucks, two of them free, and squads out by truck and by bike
The Motor Pool. Each squad shows how it went: by bike or by truck.
  • A truck carries half as many troops again as bikes (186 against 124 at level 21) and gets there and back faster.
  • A truck trip burns 300 to 600 fuel, depending on how far the mission is.
  • When you send a squad you pick how it goes: on foot (slow), by bike, or by truck if one is free and you have the fuel.

The Fuel Depot

A new building in the Fields (Headquarters 21). It fills its tanks every hour, even while you're away, and stops when they're full, so collect it like the other yards. It makes 90 fuel an hour at level 1 and 50 more for each level, and holds 1,000 a level. Chapter 30's Shipyard needs fuel too.
